Blame The Game

Blame The Game

(album: Generation Gaming XX: The Next Generation (Gaming) - 2020)

Oh no!
There's been another spree killing, silly Billy
Fool walking through a school, shooting people willy nilly
You beat the previous high score by three deaths
Yep, cool story bro, we're not particularly impressed
You briefly got your face pictured in the media (Well done)
And won a place upon a list in Wikipedia (Wow)
But that's old hat, it's not what I'm here to talk about today
I came to address the lazy claims of the NRA

Look, if games are to blame for the state of play
Then why has violence been a staple in the USA's daily diet?
As a gamer I suggest that you should maybe try it
Stay away from the shooting range, have a lazy lie in
If you're craving violence, then you should play online
'Cause there's a pile of people waiting to be slain in private
You may just find it more cathartic and relaxing
Than taking out frustrations on a paper target with a strap, look
I'm not insane, I'm hardly bat-shit, but if I was
It wouldn't be a game that made me pop a pistol at the fuzz (No)
It'd be a lack of proper medical support
And easy access to weapons used allegedly for sport

When a crazy man gets angry and
Invades and lays a place to waste, they will
Blame the games he may have played
But it ain't the place they should be taking aim
No, it ain't the place they should be taking aim
Don't blame the games he may have played
'Cause the debate will rage again and fade away
And the situation stays the same
Shame

A lot of people spend a lot of time computing
What percentage of them have done a high school shooting?
"But studies show connections between gaming and aggression!"
Yes, and there's a link between gun deaths and gun possession
You can't pull up a set of stats that you purloined
Then ignore evidence discrediting your hollow point
Every western country plays games, one of them has guns
And one of them has a gun problem, I wonder which one? (Humm)

It's my belief that if they were still alive today
The founding fathers' pounding hearts would cry for change right away
Even if it requires taking your weapon rights away
Aye, but hey, maybe I should shut my limey face
Unless I'd like to taste the other side of the firing range
But either way, by the way, can I just say
If I could take a vacation in the USA
Then I'd just like to say that I was safe
Are you today?

When a crazy man gets angry and
Invades and lays a place to waste, they will
Blame the games he may have played
But it ain't the place they should be taking aim
No, it ain't the place they should be taking aim
Don't blame the games he may have played
'Cause the debate will rage again and fade away
And the situation stays the same
Shame
