Tried to call you up today, when I rang, there was no reply
Only got a strange voice saying 'call back in a while'

I thought I didn't see right cos I was standing in the rain
So I tried to call you up and got that strange voice again

It said...
There ain't nobody here, they've all gone 'up for the day'
They won't be back right now so they've asked me to say

Call you when they're home
Treat me like a friend, speak loud and clear
I'm your ansaphone

Put yourself in my place, didn't know which way to go
Had the message in my hand and the voice, that's saying no no no
I took it to mean one thing, that the party was just me
I decided to get over there fast, didn't want to wait and see
But I couldn't quite remember the address that was on your door
So I had to call you up again and got the ansaphone once more
