New Mexico

New Mexico

(album: Aims At The West - 1963)

It's was out in ol' west Texas in the spring of '83
That a fancy cow grover came a stepping up to me
Saying how do you do young fella and how'd you like to go
And spend one summer driving on the trail to New Mexico

Now I wadn't a working so to the grover I did say
A going out to Mexico depends upon the pay
If you'll pay me good wages and a horse and a saddle too
I think Sir I would go with you and stay the summer through

My pleasures all ended and my troubles soon began
The first storm that hit us when the cattle oh they ran
While running through thorn and stickers there was some'um' we didn't know
The Injuns were a watching us from the hills of Mexico

The Indians rustled the cattle and the grover well he didn't pay
Before we knew what happened he'd up and rode away
So go home to your wife and children boy tell others not to go
To that forsaken country they call New Mexico
To that forsaken country they call New Mexico
To that forsaken country they call New Mexico
To that forsaken country...
