Pecos Jail

Pecos Jail

(album: Country Shadows - 1966)

I got in a fight in ol' Pecos town
And there I gunned a bigger bully down
A well the sheriff came a running nobody set my bail
So they threw me back in to that Pecos jail

Way down where the floor is cold and the walls are dark
And very little sun comes in
And the sheriff's daughter brings me bread and water
Till I drop to a hundred and ten
But there's a funny little ending to this tale
I think my future's in the Pecos jail

We fell in love the sheriff's daughter and me
One night little Suzy slipped me the key
Then she gave me a sweet kiss and I was San Antone bound
But my lips kept burning so I turned my horse around

Back to where the floor is cold and the walls are dark
And very little sun comes in
And the sheriff's daughter brings me bread and water
Till I drop to a hundred and ten
But there's a funny little ending to this tale
I think my heart's found a future here in the Pecos jail

Slipped back in that jailhouse into Suzy's arms
Even in this cold cell she made me feel kinda warm
It's a sweet little Suzy that I'm thinking of
And in this jailhouse I found my true love

Way down where the floor is cold and the walls are dark
And very little sun comes in
And the sheriff's daughter brings me bread and water
Till I drop to a hundred and ten
But there's a happy little ending to this tale
I think my future's here in the Pecos jail
Yeah I found my future here in the Pecos jail
