Oh, don't you remember sweet Betsy from Pike
Who crossed the great prairie with her lover, Ike
With two yoke of oxen and one spotted hog
A tall Shanghai rooster and an ol' yeller dog?

Oh, the rooster gave out and the cattle all died
The last piece of bacon that morning was fried
Ol' Ike got discouraged, and Betsy got mad
The dog wagged his tail and looked wonderful sad

Now, they soon reached the desert where Betsy gave out
And down in the sand she lay rolling about
Ol' Ike looked at Betsy and said in surprise
"Come on here, my darlin, get sand in your eye"
