Sometimes at night
The motorbikes outside my window sound like screams
And tear me from dreams so fast I gasp for air,
Like actors from nightmares in bad movies

And I want to pull you to me,
Feel your heart beat slow,
Act like I know those beasts that creep in shadow
Are tricks of sight,
A flickered streetlight
Or full beam left on,
But you're gone
And tonight it would seem
Sleep is just a dream.

Sometimes at night
Blurred lights mean sleepy eyes won't focus
And I don't have to notice you on every street.
A steady beat, my feet on stone,
A current flows to here from home
And tonight it would seem

A poet would write,
You shone like starlight,
Or glowed like the midnight moon.
Poets lie.
There are no stars in the city sky,
High rises hide the moon from view.
Here's what's true:
Sometimes at night this city runs a river right to you
Right to your door
Where I stand drowning in all that went before,
In all that's ever been
And tonight it would seem
