Behind the tar paper shack back in the holler,
Old man shocking corn and coiling copper,
He's about the only business in town,
That ain't been boughted up 'fore the bank shut down.

At first glance, you might think times are hard

There ain't no coal coming out of that shaft
There's rust all over the railroad tracks
You can't see nothing but a big old black
Cloud up in the sky
And if the good Lord don't see fit
To send a little sun down on these pines

He had a bigger dot there on the map
Who knows, it might get better again
