When you were my age, you gave up your world
Already married, raising a girl
Clinging to pages that never unfurled
It must have been a whirlwind

You kept yourself drunk on childhood dreams
They tore at your heart, you tore at the seams
And when I grew up, you passed 'em to me
But I don't know how to hold 'em

Broken prophecies you carried overseas
To give me the life that you knew you couldn't lead

I know I'm not the girl that you thought I'd be
But even if you can't believe it

I'm living in the world you wanted me to
