Standing on the road, walking down the highway
Ain't going nowhere but that's my way of life

Well I ain't never had much ambition but I always made my own way
By turning a couple of jobs in some ladies' backyard I averaged about a dollar a day
I wake up early each morning and before I started on my way
I get some cigarettes and a couple of cups of coffee a sweeping the local city cafe

Ain't never had no one to love me never had girl to call my own
I never would take a chance to fool with romance I guess I'm used to being alone
Nobody wants a drifter so I'll keep moving on
There's nothing to tie me down when I wanna leave town
Nobody's gonna miss me when I'm gone
