When Uncle Sam found that I wasn't married
He sent a letter sayin son don't erry
And make it down to your boat for induction
When you arrive you'll get further instruction
They said ya training outta do it so they put me right to it
And they sit me on an aeroplane
My destination Dang Nang Vietnam

Now I'm a fighting for the USA

I go crawling through the swamp and the marshes
Stepping on vegetables and squashes
Ducking bullets comin at me from the trees
Jumping round knocking holes in my knees
Bullets flying right and left got my scared half to death
But I know the job has got to be done
And that's why they sent me over here to Vietnam

I got captured by the Vietcong
And for a while I thought I was gonna get hung
But they just beat me on the nose
Kinda mashed all my toes
All the time sayin yankee go home
Well they stretched me a squashed me
And tried to brainwash me
But I stuck up n' snuck away
Then I popped up a fighting again for the USA

Now I'm a fighting for the USA
The red white and blue American way
If you don't like it cause I'm over here in Vietnam
