I took scissors and Elmer's glue like Mama taught me to
I'd cut out paper dolls and hang them on the wall
Girls always wore the dress, boys got to wear the pants
Everyone holding hands

I'd crayon in golden hair, blue eyes and bows to wear
Red lips and high-heeled shoes, just like the ones I'd choose
Was it subconsciously I learned to want to be
Just like them, not like me

Paper dolls so picture-perfect

Paper dolls, paper-thin

Now we flip through magazines, gazing at beauty queens
They all look down at us through billboards and movie screens
We don't have air-brushed thighs, someone to do our eyes
If we could, yes, we would

Some have had surgery to round them more perfectly
Lend them that certain lift nature just wouldn't gift
We have tried diet pills to make up for lack of will
Makes us all slim and tall

It took a half of a century for me to finally
Come to some kind of peace with who I am
I'm three-dimensional, and I can't help it
