I started writing a new symphony
From the sound of the cars in the rain on the street
It used to be us then but now it's just me
Tuning in, taking notes from a broken TV

And the truth is that right now I'm feeling caged
Against the conventional senses I rage
Making a statement on every page
But what does it prove? Whose mind does that change?

Days turn to weeks since I've been checked out
Trying my best with the weight of the doubt
That life is more than just a series of chains
That I put on myself, no one else to blame

And it feels like I'm stuck in the state that I'm in
A drunken preacher with no congregation
So I take my place among the autumn leaves
It's a failure to thrive with a family to feed
