Tramps And Hawkers

Tramps And Hawkers

(album: The Dubliners - 1964)

Oh come all ye tramps and hawker lads and gatherers oblaw
That tramps the country round and round come listen ane and all
I'll tell to ye a roving tale of sights that I have seen
It's far intae the snowy north and south by Gretna Green

Oftimes I've laughed untae mysel' when trudging on the road
My toerags round my blistered feet, my face as broon 's a toad
Wi' lumps o' cake and tattie scones, wi' whangs o' braxie ham
Nae gi'en a thought frae where I've been an' less tae whaur I'm gan

I've done my share o' humping wi' the dockers on the Clyde
I've helpit Buckie trawlers haul their herrin's o'er the side
I've helped tae build them michty bridge that spans the busy Forth
Wi' money an Angus farmer's trig, I've ploo'ed the bonnie earth

I'm happy in the summer time beneath the bricht blue sky
No thinking in the morning whaur at nicht I'll hae tae lie
In barn or byre or anywhere, dossing oot among the hay
An' if the weather treats me right I'm happy every day
