Every morning she'd awaken
Big scrambled eggs and bacon
And she gets Sue and Billy off to school
Driving past the same old places
And the same old empty faces
And all the time she's feeling like a fool

Back in time to pour his coffee
Then he heads for the office
She kisses him goodbye outside the door
A picture of devotion
She's just going through the motions

She's still a mother and a wife

The circus comes to town
And he's gonna take the children for the day

She'll get her things together
She'll dry her eyes and quickly drive away

And when the carnival is over
And they all come home together
They'll find this note that she left on the door:
"If the phone should ring and someone ask to speak to Alice
Just say: Alice doesn't love here anymore"
