I'm thinking about breaking loose and making some ground
The neon signs and the beer joints are starting to bring me down
And the old drunks and their jokes are starting to grow tired
And I hate everything about this place that I once admired

Forty's getting younger every day
And I'm starting to get it when the old-timers say
"If I knew then what I know right now"
I'd've stayed with the women that treated me best
Not chased every skirt that I ever came across
Never ran from love whenever it was running me down

All the women that I've had, they all took a part of me
Regretting and reflecting leads me only to believe
That the past holds my and the future holds the truth
And any chance of redemption for mistakes of my youth
