Smile At Snow

Ten Christmases ago
How were we to know
That the cold would be freezing , the world would be white
But no one is leaving presents tonight
That word has been hushed, it's almost a joke
The idea of Christmas somewhere became dumb
Now December is just another sad month

But somewhere in winter misery
People still dream secretly of a time they used to know
When people would smile at snow

There were sweeties and chocolates and toys and lights
Carrots and cookies for Santa tonight
Hot chocolates and crackers and family smiles
Laughter with loved ones we hadn't seen in a while
Bad jokes and brandy and music and games
Watching old movies while the fireplace fades
Jumpers and cinnamon and glittery trees

So people plod on with their every day lives
You might catch a glimpse if you're walking past a dump
The slight sparkle of tinsel, covered in mud
But some are sick of this grey, they form a plan, they say
We'll bring back Christmas
We'll out on a show
Sure we'll be laughed at, but we all know
