Shit always seems to get tough around December, you know?

Told 'em "Happy Holidays"
He wrote me back and said this

I just don't look forward to Christmas
Last few years have been different
Feel like I've been stripped of all my dignity and my income
My kids up, I ain't got no breakfast right this minute
Gotta put in overtime at work and try to buy 'em presents
Presently all my family plans to try to come visit me
There's no way I could pay to feed 'em and put up my Christmas tree
Shit, it's sad my kids don't even misbehave
Wish that I could buy 'em every gift that's on the list they made
I pick up an extra shift at work, it's late, my feet are throbbing
My boss said "Come and see me" in his office, I'm scared I might get fired
But it's there he said that all my hard work ain't go unnoticed
Wrote a check and said "Here's your Christmas bonus"
I'm really hoping Christmas

Spent a holiday by myself in my room
With the gifts that I bought her laying on the bed
Punishment 'cause I kept smelling her perfume
This bullshit is parked outside the house
On the night that her family exchanged gifts
I could see her in the window with a dude
Spent Christmas mad 'cause I ain't him

When I bought the ticket for the flight then it got delayed
"Hey Mom, sorry but I can't get there on the 25th"
Then she said "It's not Christmas if we're not together, so we'll wait 'til the 26th"
Yeah, so I hopped a flight the next day
But then when I landed, no one came to pick me up
I kept calling and when I finally get a hold of someone they say
My step-dad died that morning from an alcohol withdraw
