When her Chevrolet broke down
Out in the middle of the dessert
Miles from the nearest town
She spied this little ole' rundown shack
Sitting on the side of the hill
On the porch was a man and above his head

He was leather tanned and bearded
She couldn't tell just how old

These dessert nights get cold
He laid out supper and he watched her close
And she ate by the coal oil light
