Really brings out them colors in the leaves

Staring at me for another drink

Just to see the sunrise up on her again

Lights on the roadshow
The ghosts of cursive branches
Like her curling handwriting that is filling up my dreams
Lines of metal lattice shadows
The chain links that the trees grow through
I'm just thinking about the ice cubes in her glass

And it's not the chopping, I said, that I really enjoy
But the feeling of the ax in my hand
When I'm stacking wood for the long winter coming
For the small house we'd buy on borrowed money

It's been raining now
Since I don't know when
And I've got more water
Than any man
